I'm glad that things on the Gulf Coast seem to be going better than expected; still holding my breath that that trend continues.

Vancouver was absolutely wonderful, and so was [livejournal.com profile] geebee_x's wedding. I'll have a post up about that as soon as I've retrieved our pictures; for now, a preview:

Blueberry soup is marvelous and easy to make.* Buy a quart of blueberries from your local farmers' market (they are *very* in season right now in the Northeast :) ). Set half of them aside. Pop the rest in a pot, cover with water, toss in a cinnamon stick, bring to a boil. While the water is boiling, slice up a smallish citrus fruit crosswise, rind and all, and put the slices into your soup. Once the water's come to a boil, turn the heat down so that the soup is just simmering, and let the soup cook for 20-30 minutes. Strain out the solids, pour in the remaining uncooked blueberries, plop a scoop of yogurt or creme fraiche in the middle, and devour.

* By which I mean thank god for easy recipes, I have so royally screwed up everything else I've tried to cook this week more complex than scrambled eggs with squash blossoms.

[livejournal.com profile] laurel has posted her fall TV grid, which reminds me that it's time to redo my season passes. Dates inserted because TiVo only publishes its schedule 10-14 days ahead of time, so this is a reminder that I need to redo my passes closer to the premiere dates (like next weekend). And not forget additional potentials like Victory Garden and Tim Gunn's Guide to Style.

  • Monday, 8-9:30, Tuesday, 9-10: Dancing with the Stars. No one specific is grabbing me yet, but I'm amused by the variety. Lance Bass. Rocco di Spirito. Misty May-Treanor. Hooboy. 9/22

  • Monday, 8:30-9: How I Met Your Mother. Oh, Ted. Oh, Robin/Barney. 9/22

  • Tuesday, 8-9: House. This is [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark's show; he likes the snark and gore more than I do. House just reminds me too much of Simon Cowell, and I hate his guts. 9/16

  • Wednesday, 8-9: Pushing Daisies. I am ecstatic this is back! I love how the characters interact. I adore Ned's earnest moroseness. I wish I looked as cute as Chuck and Olive do in dresses. 10/1

  • Wednesday, 8-9: Knight Rider. A friend is on the writing staff. I don't know a damned thing about the original, though. [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark is looking at me disapprovingly. "That's where David Hasselhoff made his name! Talking Car!" 9/24

  • Thursday, 9-9:30: The Office. Though I'm admittedly behind on last season. 9/25

  • Sunday, 8-9: The Amazing Race. BEEKEEPING ORGANIC BLUEBERRY FARMERS. (I predict they'll last about as long as the married lesbian ministers, le sigh, but I'll love 'em while they're there.) 9/28

[livejournal.com profile] desh has an interesting post up about the upcoming Jewish and Muslim holidays, and the coinciding months (this cycle) of Elul and Ramadan. On the fannish side of things, this means that both [livejournal.com profile] eid_fic and [livejournal.com profile] daysofawesome are active
again, and I'm looking forward to the fics and icons and vids and other fanworks that will be created for them. :)
