You know what, let's just start with the food.

1. Question for Camberville/Boston people with experience with restaurants and celiac and/or needing to eat GF: have a friend with celiac coming to town in a couple of weeks. We're looking for a Sunday brunch (cuisine is flexible within the bounds of being celiac-friendly, she was quite adventurous foodwise pre-diagnosis) that is T-accessible, can handle a group of ~6-8 people, and takes reservations - does this exist or am I questing after a unicorn? Our current plan is the Friendly Toast, but apparently they don't take reservations, and even though we're planning to get there around 10, sounds like typical wait for our size party around that time would be ~45 minutes, and I'm like, "there's got to be a better way" ;)

2. This week has been Passover; per usual, the boy has been consuming far more matzah than me. I just make cookies, including coconut chocolate chip meringues and these cashew-cinnamon crisps:

Left: cashew cinnamon spice cookies. Right: coconut chocolate chip meringues. Pesach sameach!

Flourless Cashew Cinnamon Cookies:

1.5 cups of cashews
1 cup sugar
1 piece of matzo**
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ginger
3 egg whites

Preheat your oven to 375F.* Set aside 1 cup of cashews. Into a food processor, place the remaining 1/2 cup of cashews, sugar, matzo (broken into pieces that will fit), salt, and spices, and pulse until finely ground but not a paste. In a separate bowl, beat the three egg whites until foamy. Stir the cashew mixture into the egg whites, then add in the remaining cup of cashews. Spoon 1/2 tbsp-sized drops onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake for ~15 minutes. Slide the parchment with cookies onto a rack to cool and crisp for ~15 minutes, then remove with a flat spatula.

*Original recipe said 375F, but mine came out a bit too brown on the bottom; next time I'll probably try dropping the temperature down to 350F and increasing the baking time by a couple of minutes.
**Original recipe also had 1/4 cup potato starch instead of 1 piece of matzo, but I forgot to go buy the former, so substituted as best I could - I'm pretty sure potato starch is just made of potato, no wheat? So for people who have to eat wheat-free, not just be pesadik ...

3. KORRA, I AM IN LOVE. I believe the season premiere is free to download on iTunes for now; if not, it debuts tomorrow morning on NICK. Giving Apple and Nickelodeon my $30 for season 1 posthaste, given we ditched most cable awhile back.

But that doesn't even get into the awesomeness of a female Avatar, confident and adventurous, and a more modern world. I do hope we get more good female characters in the mix soon

Sidebar: anybody else getting slight Zanarkand vibes? Okay, maybe it's just me wanting Korra and Mako and Bolin and Tidus and Wakka to all go out drinking together, get up to shenanigans, and then Lin Bei Fong comes along and shakes them all down. Mannnnnnn.

4. I also made chocolate olive oil mousse so that [personal profile] hyounpark and I would have a yummy dessert to eat while we were watching The Amazing Race succumb to trainwreckiness.

Dessert, to go along with the return of the Amazing Race.

Ugh, TAR, I watch you because most of the time you *don't* pull this bullshit. For a show that's supposed to be 40-45 minutes in viewing length, I should not be able to watch an episode in under 20 minutes because I keep having to fastforward past all the dramallama. With six teams left, I should not actively dislike four of them.

5. Is it time for more Korra yet? Is it?

Flora in East Arlington has sunday brunch now, and while I've never tried the brunch, for dinner they've adjusted meals for me in the past.

DRAMALLAMADINGDONG. Yeah, BB chick and divorced chick both need to be smacked, and the border patrol guys, while competent, are pretty jerktastic.

Right now I don't know if I'm Team FBI or Team Kentucky FTW, since I don't know if either can actually rise to the top, but those teams are at least generally working together and not being buttholes with themselves or to other teams.

Honestly, I think the worst winning season was when Flo won (season 2 or 3, I think?). BB chick reminds me a lot of her...

I think Kentucky's the only team left that I could stomach as winners. I'll probably still go to TARcon though. In previous seasons, people who were total jerks on the show ended up being the nicest in real life.
