Got an update from our chorus manager today.

The search for a new chorus director is still getting organized and won't be done until late in the calendar year. They've decided to let the orchestra's associate conductor act as the interim director for our fall performances (B9 & Messiah). He was already going to be conducting the Messiah anyway.

Turns out the reason Carmina Burana wasn't included on the symphony's concert schedule is because we're inexplicably doing it with the local ballet organization instead. Interesting.

We've also been told to pencil in a possible one-night performance in late February, but not what it might be. So there's at least a slim chance we might still do something this season that I haven't already done at least 3 times before. We had earlier been told that we would be involved with The Polar Express, but then they decided to do Muppet Christmas Carol instead.

Oh, cat

some good things

  1. The fan. Got house down to Actually Matching Outside Air Temperature in finite time; set up to experiment with running it in the bedroom overnight. (It has been Too Warm For Cuddles, which is Bad.)
  2. Made the nonsense lavender-and-honey Welsh cakes for breakfast. I was sure I had picked way too much lavender but it actually fit in the measuring spoon pretty much perfectly, and wound up being noticeable but not Overwhelming.
  3. New Murderbot novelette! I have not launched right into reading it because I am just about a quarter of the way through a System Collapse reread (and fascinated by how little of it I remember, though I concede I've read it many fewer times than All Systems Red...) so I'm going to finish that first. Which I am not expecting to take me very long.
  4. Having spent a bunch of time poking around Wikipedia, I've gone back to Nerve and Muscle and, now almost two whole pages in, it is making significantly more sense than my previous attempt. (I have not yet started making myself notes on neuroanatomy but I am definitely considering it.)
  5. It is The Time Of Year when strawberries are relatively cheap, so after dinner we wandered down the hill in service of me getting my steps, and us getting some exposure to The Breeze, and acquiring me a giant box of strawberries, and also picking up Ice Lollies to consume on the way back up.
  6. Realised I could stick a jug of water in the fridge. This has made hydrating significantly easier. (I do not do well at drinking water that isn't Cold, and the magic ice dispenser on our freezer is currently out of action.)
  7. The online Oxfam shop. Shortly to be on their way to me: a pair of cargo shorts; two pairs of linen cargo trousers; a book I previously had out from the library but which I wanted to have a reference copy of at least briefly for writing purposes.

So, I am looking for a fanvid made for festivids for “Snow White: a Tale of Terror” called “Bare your Teeth” using Lady Gaga’s teeth by vidder e- transitions back in 2010.

I seem to remember having accessed it either through YouTube or Vimeo at some point but all of the old links I have found link to a download on the vidder’s personal website, which no longer exists.

I’m hoping for a link or if someone had downloaded it at some point and still has it, I would be forever grateful.

Two guys came and measured the space for my new dishwasher and it will apparently fit, but there are as always several - okay, 2 - unexpected wrinkles: 1. the current machine is hardwired into the electric, but the new dishwasher needs a plug, so the installers are going to have to build an outlet? These 2 guys didn't seem to think it was a big deal but it is another $75, which at this point is whatever, fine. Secondly, they were concerned that the installation might damage the drain pipe under my sink, and I was like, can we wrap it in something to protect it from being dinged? and they were like, "Eh, maybe, but if it breaks you're responsible for fixing it." Which, thanks. I suppose I can get under there and wrap a towel around it if necessary.

So we'll see how this goes on Tuesday. Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't completely wreck my kitchen!

Speaking of wrecking my kitchen, my current HGTV viewing is "Help! I wrecked my house!" which I'm enjoying, but oh my god, the sheer hubris of some of these mediocre white men, who think they can demo a kitchen or a bathroom down to the studs and then figure out how to put in a new one, and then have to call Jasmine because of course they can't. I don't understand these people, tbh. There is nothing wrong with asking a trained professional to come in and do that kind of work, especially if you're not particularly handy. (And even you are handy in the "can change a washer in the faucet" variety, what makes you think you can install a shower from the ground up??? WTF?) On the other hand, I am really sympathetic to the folks who did hire a contractor who turned out to be shady and didn't do the work properly and stiffed them of their money to boot!

In other news, I am now on vacation and very excited about it! Except shit, I forgot to set up my out of office message. I will have to log back in and do that.

They are actually in a wild card playoff spot now and within reach of the division.   The big weekend series vs Tampa continues.

I decided to be a bit lazy with July’s stationary choices, so we’re continuing 2 pens from last month and just adding in the pen that I had been using for todo lists, and repeating the bunny sticker sheet that I hadn’t finished. I did get some new puppy stickers for my calendar (I’m currently tracking which days I spend some time writing). It’s a bit of chaos here this month as I finish my job, work on writing for a little fanfic event I decided to join, and then do some travel to visit family, so I don’t think I’ll be doing much actual journal writing.

Pens, Ink and stickers for July 2025. They're described in more detail in the post.

Inks & Fountain Pens:

  • Pilot Metropolitan <CM> with KWZ Gummiberry

  • Pilot E95S <M> with Pilot Iroshizuku kon-peki

  • Ooly duo with original pink cartridge and orange highlighter

Stickers:

  • Meowashi bubble tea dogs

  • Stickii books and bunnies

  • Mind Wave puppies

  • The Latest Kate elephants

No changes to paper this month either!

Notes from last month:

  • I picked up an Endless Phantom retractable fountain pen during their kickstarter and it arrived. Unfortunately it seems to dry out constantly, so I’m going to try reseating the gasket (they have a video on how to do this) and we’ll see if I have better luck after that. I spent a bit extra to get a fude nib and it writes beautifully when it writes, but it’s been pretty frustrating!

Spike: I don't know. Maybe a crypt. Some place, you know, dark and dank. But not as dark and dank as this.
Anya: It's pretty depressing, isn't it?
Spike: I've known corpses with a fresher smell. In fact, I've been one.

For anyone interested in making a site/section on their site for their fics, here's a really good template for a fanfiction masterlist that just got posted online! Created by [personal profile] ceu. There's easy to follow documentation on how it works, and links to HTML tutorials if you're not familiar or need a refresher on there as well.

As said on the page showcasing the template too, it was inspired by this portfolio template by Kaylee Rowena. Which would be great for anyone who makes fanart! I might end up using this template myself whenever I get to revamping my art galleries on my own site.

Since I know there's a lot of fannish folks here I thought these would be worth sharing!

Theme: Working together, outsider POV

Summary: the flagship may not be all it's cracked up to be

Reccer's Notes: Have you ever wondered what it's like to work with a commanding officer who has zero judgment when it comes to the captain and who does shit like almost kill him while under the influence of Vulcan mating hormones? Or how about working under a captain who has zero judgment when it comes to his first, and is always doing shit like risking his life and the ship to save his first's life? This short song captures what that must be like. It's the little things like trying to get your damn performance review submitted to Starfleet.

I'm not super into filk, but this one is well-written, with fun rhymes and nice progression from beginning to end. It'll put a smile on your face.
