0. People are talking about NaNoWriMo; my last 3 months I haven't been able to write anything longer than a tweet. What's up with that?

1. HI HI OMG I MISSED YOU ALL SO MUCH HOW WERE YOUR SUMMERS?

got married, moved (back) to Cambridge, the rest of my life since then )

Okay, that's enough of that. Basically, if you're curious about the last three months of my life, my Twitter is probably the best place to find out. Or my Facebook, but I feel like most of us are already friended there (and if not and you'd like to be, ping me in comments :) )

In the meantime, it's supposed to get into the 60s today, so I will probably head down to Mem Drive for a bike ride through the foliage, though unpacking and laundering the winter clothes will also be a priority.

[personal profile] hyounpark and I wandered out to Homecoming yesterday. Didn't get a lot of the food we'd normally eat on a Pioneer Valley Food Run, but we did snag cider donuts from Atkins Farm and pizza from Antonio's. We don't really go for the football; I go more for the people and the music, and yesterday was full of that.

- gave advice to a few earnest and overwhelmed '13s (class of '13, wtf, when did we get so old?!)
- hung out with an adorable 19-month-old for dinner (babies grow crazy fast, and love things that let them make a mess, I'm just sayin':

52-card pickup

finger-lickin' good

- shortened but high-energy Choral Society concert was one of the best I've been to in years. I recognized at least one song from each group (and was bouncing in my seat mouthing along to it, I'm looking at you, Izatate Ikusabitoyo Glee Club boys' marching song), throwing candy at the student conductor is always fun, and we got to show off our bling to the person whose fault it is we even met in the first place (Mallorie, our beloved choral director; steered me towards the small-group Madrigals singers my junior year, where I actually met [personal profile] hyounpark).

... oops. I missed like, everyone's August birthdays; happy belated birthday to [livejournal.com profile] exor674, [livejournal.com profile] chipb0i, [livejournal.com profile] mortaine, [livejournal.com profile] fractalspackle, [livejournal.com profile] jennifer, [livejournal.com profile] richenza, [livejournal.com profile] khalidz0r, [livejournal.com profile] jennielynn1127, [livejournal.com profile] burrito19, [livejournal.com profile] shimonrura, and last but definitely not least, [livejournal.com profile] pukajen!

Things what have made me laugh so hard I fell out of my chair: "Stanford is a conservative school, that’s why they’re rivals with Cal - it has little to do with sports." HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Shyeah. Whatevs.

Things over which I am conflicted: Joba Chamberlain. Yes, I vacillated, then eventually picked him up off waivers about 30 seconds before someone else could. (Yes, I finally used my #1 waivers slot for this kid.) Yes, my fantasy team is reaping the benefits of quality innings. But dammit, two of those innings have come against the Sox. Who are still six games up, true, but that's not totally insurmountable given the month remaining before the postseason. And now he got his ass suspended for the weekend for throwing his balls at Youk's head. Sigh.

Things that make me wonder about who's calling the show: NESN's obsession with Josh Beckett's butt. Seriously, every time he stepped off the mound, a camera followed him from the rear about waist-height down in these long bouncy shots.

Things you should not mistake for the real thing: Trader Joe's "Bool Kogi." Don't waste your money - the spices are wrong and bland and it's sliced way too thick. Locals, go pick up real bulgogi at Han a Reum or Reliable; you cook it at home just like the "Bool Kogi," but with far better results. Or Kaya's is "acceptable," per [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark. (Koreana's "sucks, don't go there.") Or you could get Hyoun to make you some himself ... ;)

Things I am doing right now: recovering from Diva's "naanwich" while [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark plays FF7. Bugenhagen just suggested that Nanaki "show us your apparatus." The naanwich was amusing in concept, but sadly kinda dry in practice; better to get the meat dish separate with all the sauce, then dip the naan in the sauce. Also, babying my left knee, which has taken to bending backwards doing simple things like walking to Davis and back. Also, needing to go grocery shopping tomorrow but not wanting to do it at the same time all the crazy September 1 people are going to be doing it. Also, resetting my last.fm profile because I rarely listen to Tori Amos anymore, and her sitting atop my "most played artists" list on last.fm by a factor of three was annoying me.

10/30/2023: Heyyy, Eater SF got as annoyed by the 'bool kogi' as I was/am, 16 years later :D It's worth a read; the primary point of the piece is that Korean American restaurateurs of 2023 feel that calling their dishes by generic American descriptors is infantilizing, so why not use the actual names that will prompt curiosity and connection? Because there will always be narrow-minded people, so why give into them anymore ever. We've mainstreamed terms like quesadilla and sushi - with some ongoing misunderstanding along the way, sure - but they're terms as normalized as pizza and apple pie now in most American cities.

Also, I am mad at my past self for resetting my last.fm profile ;P

Also, Diva closed down for skeeeeetchiness towards the end of 2017, and Namaskar closed five years before that, so I'm not really sure where people get Indian food around Davis Square anymore. Martsa on Elm is still going on the Tibetan side of things, though House of Tibet closed even longer ago, but things have changed a lot over the years.
ursamajor: Mulder and Scully playing baseball (baseball!)
happy belated birthday, [livejournal.com profile] chrisg! (and at the rate i'm posting these days, might as well say happy early birthday, [livejournal.com profile] noghri!)

it's finally gotten warm enough again here that i'm not minding walking. it's downright gorgeous out tonight, and i'm half-debating walking to choir, except i dislike the construction zone of lower mass ave. maybe i'll compromise; walk down to central and take the 1 across the river instead, then walk to choir from hynes. i forgot to get my t-pass this month, so for the most part, i've been trying to walk places where normally i would've been trying to figure out some complex route to maximize the use of my t-pass and minimize the freezing of my ears and fingers.

i keep forgetting that yes, davis and central squares really are within normal walking distance once the temperature's reasonably above freezing. so i end up at someday cafe with my laptop and live the cliche my way - nestled into a cozy corner, laptop open to IRC, peoplewatching the hipsters with my accomplice the mint italian soda. i cut corners and realize that the harvard bookstore is a 15-minute walk from my front door when there's no ice to slip on. i stroll down to the new branch of petsi pies to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] nolrak and alissa as they meander up mass ave.

my choir friend polina and i rarely see each other outside of choir, despite living mere blocks away from each other. (this happens with [livejournal.com profile] elements and berkman, too, and should change!) but in the past week, i've run into her three separate times just walking down the street. i like this community feel.

i'm counting down to the farmers' markets opening again in the last week of may. i'm looking at weekends to host that first summer barbecue to sort-of celebrate my half birthday (june 4 i have a concert; june 11 i'll either be singing in fenway park or driving up the california coast; june 18 is a little too close to [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark's birthday and our anniversary. so i'm debating either moving it back to memorial day weekend or forward to the fourth of july.)

ursamajor: Serenity, taking off (there she goes)
today's fantasy baseball grumble: it would've been nice to know that cabrera was getting the night off. because i would've moved burrell over from utility into OF, benched cabrera for the night, and pulled eckstein off the bench into util. which means i missed eck having a good night and going 4/5. grumble.

today is may 12th. tomorrow i fly to philly for midnight baseball with [livejournal.com profile] memerath, oh, right, and wedding #1. the next weekend is my last weekend to get anything remotely relaxing/productive done. the weekend after that is five year reunion. then tech week. then opera weekend (plus [livejournal.com profile] irchurch, and we're discussing sex and the sacred; i am so not missing that one). then wedding #2. and then i have to get serious about the housing hunt.

plus hopefully impending visits from [livejournal.com profile] rustnroses, [livejournal.com profile] ladysisyphus, and [livejournal.com profile] geebee_x. hooray!

and to think that this summer, i wanted to do things like go kayaking! (it has been way, way the hell too long since i've been on the water.) and start up those musical sundays i keep discussing with [livejournal.com profile] fes42 and [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark. and spend as much time as is humanly possible in bodies of water not enclosed in buildings. and spend time with the lj-less mel and [livejournal.com profile] mrieser before they move away. and road trip with [livejournal.com profile] hyounpark! and cape league games with [livejournal.com profile] fes42!

the good: getting to see [livejournal.com profile] memerath, [livejournal.com profile] theconvictor, [livejournal.com profile] slwands, [livejournal.com profile] geebee_x, [livejournal.com profile] elemmire7, and [livejournal.com profile] fractalspackle many times over the coming weekends. oh, right, and getting a well-deserved in-person apology on bended knee. *beams* (er, not from any of the above-mentioned.)

the bad: what's sleep?

also, i dug my tevas out last night to go to the brahms quintets with ben, and MY TOES ARE FREE. this makes me blissfully happy.

also, to those who called me last night: got your calls, but was in the aforementioned concert. trying again tonight?

8/12/23: I assume the cryptic was for whomever apologized to me? I guess I forgave them; I've forgotten why an apology was needed in the interim! LOL.
